MG F1-2000 - undertray is done!!! Start to clean up white metal suspension parts
Saturday, January 31, 2009, 11:03 AM - MG 1/12 F1-2000
Alright, pretty good start for 2009. Undertray CFing is done. I only do the upper part as I am not going to look at the bottom. It is not a good idea to flip this heavy monster upside down anyway.

Monocoque with raw engine, transmission and sidepods.

Barge board mounts are attached with 30 min epoxy glue.

Closeup on CF undertray. CF is from Modelers. After decal is dried, a coat of Acyrlic semi-gloss from Gunze is applied. The heat shielf is done by bare metal foil, the gloss aluminum one.

A guest from backyard is checking out the progress.

Time to cleanup suspension parts.. I hate cleaning up white metal... very messy.

Gee one rear wishbone is broken.. I solder it up.. This is first time I do soldering.. It takes me 4 tries to get the extension welded in..

More to come!!

MG F1-2000 - polishing done, seat done and CF-ing undertray
Monday, January 19, 2009, 08:16 PM - MG 1/12 F1-2000
Today is Martin Luthur King Jr holiday, so I take this chance to build something...

Polishing done... Process is the same as all my other works.. Wet-sand from 3200 grits to 12000 grits. Then polish with Tamiya compound fine and finish. Finally one coat of Tamiya wax. I am happy with the finish. Then, I used Humbrol german gray to hand brush the exhaust area.

Here is the nose cone with front wing. Polished surface looks good to me.

I used 30min epoxy glue to attach several PEs and winglets

Seat done.. I used double-sided tape to attach seatbelt. Surprisingly, it worked out great..

Now the hard part, CF-ing undertray....

Happy New Year & MG F1-2000 update: 3 layers of CL184 clearcoat applied. Waiting for polishing.
Friday, January 2, 2009, 01:36 PM - MG 1/12 F1-2000
Happy New Year to everyone. I hope 2009 will be a better year for all of us.

While my employer has last year shutdown, I got some chance to do some painting.

I airbrushed 3 layers of wet Gunze CL184 super clear II coat on the car. Once it gets cure after couple days, I will start polishing.

Enjoys,

MG F1-2000 - 2 layer of bright red put on and polished. Decaling done.
Sunday, December 7, 2008, 10:04 AM - MG 1/12 F1-2000
Got some progress last couple weeks. I put on 2 wet coats of Tamiya bright red. Then polished them with 2400 grits polishing cloth.

Put on all decals on main body parts yesterday.

Ok, will wait for decal to completely dry for a week, then wash entire body with detergents.. After that it is clearcoat time.

It is time to take a break before I move on again.

MG F1-2000 white primier on on main body parts
Sunday, November 23, 2008, 06:06 PM - MG 1/12 F1-2000
Ok, finally got some time to do some modeling..

I sprayed 2 wet layers of Tamiya white primers on all main body parts and undertray this morning. Then I used 1200 grits sandpaper to smooth out the dried primer. Now they are ready for bright red paint next week (hopefully.)

1. 2 layers of white primers are on.

2. Another angle.. This is one huge car.

3. Wet sand with 1200 grits sand paper and I am letting it air-drying in the bathroom.

Thera are few more parts that require the red paint too. They are small winglets on both sides of the airbox, mirrors and barge board. They are relatively small, I will do them in next batch.
